Jack Devine's
Giant-Scale Super-Solution R/C
model kit Price: $375.00
With the Jack Devine Super Solution
model, much of the work has already been done for you. Imagine opening the box
and finding a fully-formed foam frame waiting there for you! You won't
have to imagine what your model is going to look like framed up. The frame
is done, the shape is already complete! All that's left to do is follow
the easy video instructions for capping, sheeting, and installing some hard
points like a firewall and landing gear blocks, and your model is ready for gear
and finish! Once you look at it you'll realize with a model this size just
how quickly you can be in the air compared to a stick-built model. There's
just no comparison in building time, a Jack Devine model builds faster every time!
In 1931 the
Laird Super Solution broke the transcontinental speed record under the skillful
piloting of Jimmy Dolittle. Built as the successor to the Solution, the
Super Solution Bipe was considered by other racers who flew against it to
possess near-blinding speed! In its lifetime, the Super-Solution went
through many changes, starting out a vivid green and yellow racer as shown here
with fixed landing gear and wheel pants. In it's final form it was a
brilliant red and yellow and had retractable landing gear which for a time had a
habit of deciding on their own whether or not they wanted to work that
day. Jimmy Dolittle referred to the whole thing as
"Experience". That's a real indicator of why these pilots were
considered pioneers of aviation.
The development and
stages that the Super Solution went through during its eventful life makes the
Jack Devine Super Solution model a terrific choice of Golden-Age Racers.
The history of this famous racer enables modelers to build the Super Solution in
either configuration. Whatever way you build her, the Super Solution is a
unique piece of aviation history. A true icon of the Golden Age of racing,
the Super Solution stands apart from other models with her sleek but undeniably
Golden-Age lines. A sport-scale giant with a colorful past, you may
want to build one for yourself!
Because of the
biplane's wing area, this particular Jack Devine Giant-scale model has very light wing loading. As with all
Jack Devine models,
the building video helps you build it easily. The video guides you through the
capping and sheeting of all foam pieces, and the gearing up for hardware,
mounts, etc. Are you wondering about the processes involved? This
website also has building articles filled with a variety of tips and techniques
to help answer many of your construction questions, both now and after you start
building your Jack Devine model! The
wings have pre-cut control surfaces, servo pockets, and wire channels. Included
is all of the balsa you will need for sheeting, a generous hardware package consisting of hardware,
and a fiberglass cowling and wheel pants and a Lexan canopy are included
as well.
Building Time:
This model can be built in as little as 25 hours, even with minimal building
experience!
Flying skills required:
Average Flyer or above.
